How many times have you been listening to someone talk and you couldn’t understand what they were saying? When trying to work with speech recognition, this can be very frustrating, especially if it’s someone with an accent or who mumbles.

But thanks to the development of artificial intelligence and speech recognition algorithms, that problem could soon be a thing of the past. In fact, in a few years we might have devices that can use voice recognition algorithms to translate conversations from any language into our native tongue instantly.

What is Speech Recognition Algorithms?

Speech recognition algorithms enable us to translate human speech into language. A speech recognition algorithm works by recording sound waves that result from our speaking voice and applying artificial intelligence (AI) in order to convert them into text we can understand. For example, people who have a condition known as aphasia which is usually due to brain injury can still communicate with others by dictating their thoughts directly into their smart phones which then use these algorithms to transcribe what they say in text form for loved ones to read.

This capability has become so successful that it is now being used for applications like Siri and Alexa. In fact, as AI technology continues to advance, there’s little doubt that these speech recognition algorithms will be able to do even more than they currently can.

Why do we use speech recognition?

we use speech recognition because it is a faster and less error prone way to communicate with machines. In order for AI to be truly intelligent, machines need to learn about language, but it’s much more difficult for them than recognizing numbers or colours or even facial expressions.

Thus far, computers have proven better at processing and learning other things in nature that can be defined using numbers and mathematics (e.g., weather forecasting), than things involving language and abstract concepts (e.g., online customer service). Speech recognition is one-way artificial intelligence technology can make strides in terms of both learning how to process language as well as reduce errors when communicating with humans.

The algorithms used in speech recognition are becoming increasingly sophisticated and accurate, which means they’re not only useful for businesses looking to automate phone systems, but also becoming a key component of future-forward AI. As MIT Technology Review put it, we’re getting closer every day to having computer programs that know us so well they can anticipate our needs before we ask. In short voice-activated virtual assistants like Amazon’s Alexa may just be scratching the surface on what’s possible with current technologies eventually helping us all live out some real-life version of Star Trek’s famous Computer interface from Next Generation.

How Do Speech Recognition Algorithms Work?

Speech recognition algorithms have been used in many applications, including speech-to-text conversion, automatic call routing and text-to-speech synthesis. Whether you’re interested in learning how to use speech recognition technology or if you just want to understand how they work, reading further will help you unlock their potential.

For example, Microsoft has created a speech recognition algorithm that can translate real conversations between people speaking different languages into written text. Soon we may be using these types of systems for a number of new purposes and you might even be able to use them at home learn about speech recognition algorithms and artificial intelligence so that you can anticipate what’s coming next.

Both image and voice data contain a stream of information that needs to be converted from raw data into something meaningful for us. A central challenge is gathering enough training data and there are already plenty of voice samples available on services like YouTube.

But image datasets still need more work before computers can identify pictures as accurately as humans do. We’re getting there, though Google recently released an open source dataset called ImageNet, which has over 14 million images that researchers can use to train their computer vision models. It’s exciting when these types of tools become publicly available because they allow anyone to contribute and collaborate on projects related to artificial intelligence research.

The way in which an algorithm recognizes words or images is called its architecture or model. The architecture of a speech recognition system depends heavily on what kind of problem you want it to solve. For example, whether you want your system to transcribe a conversation in real time or only give you search results after someone speaks specific words aloud.

How Do Speech-to-Text Systems Work?

The most basic speech-to-text system works by recording someone speaking, then translating that speech into text. While that process sounds easy enough, there’s a lot more that goes into converting those words into text on your screen. Speech is often muffled and hard to understand, especially when different speakers are involved.

To understand what you’re saying, speech-to-text systems rely on complicated artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and computer science technology. Here’s how they work Speech-to-Text Systems Work,

Step 1 – Collecting Data: Speech recognition systems require training data in other words, it needs examples of speech to analyze in order to learn how humans speak. That data can be collected in a number of ways, including online searches or recorded audio files.

Step 2 – Analyzing Speech: When speech is recorded or typed in, it’s analyzed for certain characteristics that indicate which letters were spoken at which time. This step uses sophisticated AI algorithms and machine learning techniques to recognize patterns in human speech.

Step 3 – Translating Speech: Once an AI system has been trained with data from real human speech samples, it can translate new recordings into text using similar processes as used for analyzing speech above.

Step 4 – Outputting Text: The final step in speech-to-text systems is to output what was translated from speech. This is usually done through a screen or speaker, and uses natural language processing (NLP) to determine which words should be capitalized and how punctuation should be formatted.

Speech recognition technology is already in use today Speech-to-Text Systems are already in use today speech recognition technology has existed since at least 1957 when IBM created a system that could recognize 16 spoken digits, but it wasn’t until recently that they became popular enough to use on everyday devices like smartphones and computers.

Artificial intelligence algorithms have improved dramatically over time AI Algorithms Have Improved Dramatically Over Time In recent years, artificial intelligence algorithms have seen rapid improvements thanks to advances in machine learning and big data analytics. Speech-to-text systems are no exception and modern speech recognition systems outperform their predecessors by leaps and bounds.

The future of speech recognition systems looks bright The Future of Speech Recognition Systems Looks Bright As new technologies like cloud computing continue to improve, so will speech-to-text systems. It’s likely we’ll see continued improvements from current tech giants like Apple (Siri), Google (Google Assistant), Microsoft (Cortana) and Amazon (Alexa). Speech-to-text systems have come a long way in recent years, but they’re just getting started.

History and Evolution of Speech Recognition Technology

Speech recognition technology first emerged in 1955, when a speech-related algorithm was included in a computer program called MYCIN. This program was used to assist doctors in diagnosing patients who had contracted pneumonia based on symptoms and physical findings. Over time, speech recognition technology has evolved from including just a single speech-related algorithm into new programs that incorporate multiple algorithms to recognizing complex commands with multiple user voices.

Today, some even go so far as to say that these programs are already surpassing human accuracy. What’s more: they continue to evolve faster than our ability to keep up with them can match. It’s an exciting time for speech recognition technology and artificial intelligence as we look forward to what’s next. Speech recognition technology works by converting sound waves or audio signals into text using any number of different technologies. While earlier iterations relied mostly on statistical or probabilistic models (because of their complexity), recent developments have brought about improvements that rely heavily on deep learning technologies and neural networks (with their inherent ability to learn patterns).

As it stands now, certain speech recognition technology has reached human parity by being able to carry out tasks at equal levels of accuracy compared to human users doing similar tasks. In fact, some argue that speech-recognition software is better suited for carrying out specific tasks because it is less likely to make errors or fall victim to ambiguous speech like humans often do.

What Can We Expect from Speech Recognition in the Future?

Speech recognition technology has been around for decades, but it’s only recently that we’ve seen some pretty impressive results. The progress has been so remarkable that AI expert Andrew Ng said speech recognition is one of those technologies like smartphones or self-driving cars where it will become obvious that they were a good idea.

There are two major problems with current speech recognition tech: having your words misinterpreted and being misunderstood due to noisy environments. These issues could be tackled if voice dictation becomes as common as keyboarding, says James Glasscock from Google Translate. He cites experts who believe by 2030 more than 50% of searches would be done through speech recognition engines instead of keyboards.

Predicts improvements in audio transmission techniques and widespread adoption across various devices would enable better access to information via smart assistants such as Alexa and Siri. This suggests people will gradually come to rely more on voice commands than typing or using search interfaces, perhaps giving rise to whole new ways of interacting with digital assistants over time.

Drawbacks and Challenges

Speech recognition has improved in recent years, but still has drawbacks and challenges. Some common speech recognition drawbacks include: speaker adaptation, small vocabulary, grammar/syntax error rate and environmental noise. For example, if you’re speaking with someone who’s not familiar with your accent or dialect, it can be difficult for them to understand what you’re saying.

In addition to these speech recognition drawbacks, there are a number of challenges that make speech recognition difficult for computers to process. Speech is an imprecise language it’s filled with regional accents and subtle variations in pronunciation that humans take for granted when they’re listening to someone speak. The same goes for speakers who use different languages or dialects—the computer may not be able to determine what words are being said if it doesn’t have a large enough library of data on those particular words.

These speech recognition challenges often mean users must repeat themselves several times before their voice commands are recognized. In terms of processing speed, speech recognition software tends to lag behind other forms of input like typing and touchscreens (and sometimes even mouse clicks). However, some new speech recognition algorithms have been developed recently that could make voice commands much faster than traditional keyboards.

For example, Google researchers used machine learning techniques to create a new algorithm called Tacotron  which generates synthetic speech more quickly than existing algorithms by using all available computing resources at once rather than using just one processor core at a time. This means voice command software will soon be as fast as other input methods while also providing additional benefits like hands-free operation.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the way we communicate and do business. Thanks to AI, it’s easier than ever to connect with customers, employees, and co-worker’s in their native languages thanks to automatic translation and interpretation technology. Here are 5 ways that AI is changing localization today and in the future.

Voice Translations

In recent years, voice translations have become easier to do. The advent of cloud technology and artificial intelligence has made it possible for businesses to easily translate phone calls from one language to another. For example, if you’re a German business with a client base in China, you can use software that will automatically convert voice into text and then back into Chinese speech so that customers in both countries can understand each other. This saves time and money over traditional translation methods.

Not only does it make life easier for employees, but it makes interactions more pleasant; you want your customers to feel comfortable when doing business with you, especially on important matters like finances or negotiations. Voice translations are also great for employee training. It’s not always feasible to bring an employee who speaks multiple languages onto staff, but using AI to translate their instructions means that everyone can be trained equally regardless of their native tongue. You might even consider adding video chat capabilities as well—this way, people who speak different languages could have a face-to-face conversation without having to travel! If you’re looking for ways artificial intelligence is changing localization, look no further than voice translations.

Video

There’s no denying that video content has made a huge impact on marketing. A new kind of artificial intelligence technology known as Video Ai allows businesses to add subtitles and voiceovers to their videos in any language—without touching a single keyboard. Video Ai intelligently tracks facial features and speech patterns in real time, allowing it to identify different languages being spoken and convert them into captions using an enormous database of professionally translated texts.

This allows organizations with multi-language needs to finally create compelling video content that speaks to every customer on a one-to-one basis. With Video Ai, customers can read subtitles in their native language or hear someone else speaking in their own voice. For example, you could use Video Ai to automatically translate your video into Spanish for Spanish speakers or Chinese for Mandarin speakers. It’s also possible to use Video Ai to translate videos from one language into another while retaining authentic accents and dialects.

Machine Translation

Machine translation, also known as computer-assisted translation, has been around for decades. While it has been a good way to translate small amounts of text on short timelines, machine translation didn’t offer an efficient way to translate larger amounts of text or meet stringent deadlines. Today’s advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and big data have changed that.

Google and other companies are applying AI to machine translation in order to get closer to human-level translations and greatly improve turnaround times. In addition, some translators are now using crowdsourcing platforms like Amara to increase their productivity by leveraging each other’s language skills.

Email Interpreting

Language translation was one of the first uses for artificial intelligence. Today, it’s hard to imagine business without email interpretation—you don’t need to be a linguist in order to use a tool like Google Translate that makes language barriers disappear. Artificial intelligence even gives you options that aren’t available through human interpreters, including speech interpretation. For example, if you’re traveling in Italy and you’d like directions from your hotel to Rome, text or email your question to an AI-powered service such as Waygo and receive an answer in real time.

It works by analysing photos of text and determining what language it’s written in—then it translates it before giving you a voice reply so you can get going quickly. This sort of artificial intelligence technology isn’t just changing how people communicate; it’s also changing how businesses communicate with customers around the world. If you have an international audience, email interpreting is no longer optional; it’s required.

If you want to reach customers in their native languages, you’ll need a solution that automatically translates and interprets texts and emails into multiple languages (and allows them to do likewise). You’ll also want artificial intelligence behind your solution because humans can only translate one language at a time; using AI will allow customers who speak different languages to chat freely with each other via their preferred method of communication (text message, social media, etc.).

Chatbots

Chatbots are one of AI’s biggest localization success stories. Chatbots are designed to imitate real conversations and can be used to translate and interpret (among other things). The technology has already been applied in a number of ways—from Google Translate for Android, which lets users have back-and-forth conversations with a chatbot that works much like a bilingual human would, to Facebook Messenger bots for businesses, where customers can engage with customer service reps in their native language.

Even voice-controlled devices like Amazon Echo and Google Home are beginning to use artificial intelligence. In short, chatbots make it easier than ever before for businesses and consumers around the world to interact seamlessly. There’s no telling what type of impact they’ll have on localization over time. But as long as AI continues to improve, chatbots will likely become an increasingly popular method of translation and interpretation.

And that means businesses will soon be able to take advantage of new opportunities for growth. For example, by serving a larger audience and communicating more effectively with international partners or clients. What does all of this mean? Businesses that don’t incorporate artificial intelligence into their workflows now may soon find themselves left behind. Those who do embrace AI may well see benefits in terms of efficiency, revenue generation, growth potential, market share and so forth.

Artificial intelligence is a hot topic, and it’s not just in the movies anymore. The public is beginning to realize that artificial intelligence is going to be a big part of our lives in the near future. Many people have heard about AI and even have opinions about it, but it’s easy for those opinions to be misguided because the world of AI can seem murky. What is artificial intelligence? How will it affect business in the future? How Can You Use Artificial Intelligence in Your Business? Here are 5 ways you can start incorporating AI into your business today.

Automation

Sit down and think a bit. How many mundane tasks can be done efficiently by a machine? One of the best ways to begin a conversation around AI is to think about your day-to-day activities. After all, everyone uses a lot of information every day, from emails to social media to calls to driving directions and more. Think about what you could automate and what you could put an artificially intelligent system to do. Take a step back and think about the tasks you’re currently doing and if there is an algorithm or process that could speed things up. Is it huge now? Maybe it needs to be sped up a little bit. Everyone can do something!

Here are some examples of tasks that can be automated:

Research

Think about how you could perform a quick search for information or best online options to refer to on the go.

Write emails

Automate the email process so you’re not busy researching and writing emails all day.

Schedule appointments

Have the AI automatically send out an appointment to help you with anything that could be done manually.

Ecommerce

Optimize product pages by finding the best information, finding an exact match, and making sure emotions are included on the page.

Schedule meetings

An AI could schedule meetings based on people who shared the same interests, connected with the same people, or need to be at the meeting location at the scheduled time.

Machine learning

Machine learning is a field within computer science that gives computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can teach themselves to improve their performance without being explicitly programmed. To use machine learning, computer scientists must program certain factors into the algorithm that make the computer learn. For example, if a computer is asked to write a webpage, the computer might be asked to write a webpage with certain content, certain keywords, or some combination of these factors.

While there are ways to ensure that a computer knows how to do certain tasks without being explicitly programmed, this learning can still occur. Inclusion Machine learning continues to evolve, and it’s no longer limited to computer programs that can analyze each of the billions of documents that Google processes daily. If you search Google for “Pharma Company,” you’re going to see a variety of articles from authoritative, human-edited sites. If you search for “AI Company,” the results may include articles from only a few websites. There’s no black or gray in this world. People are both welcoming and fearful of artificial intelligence. Some experts are arguing that AI companies are coming for our jobs.

While the point of bringing up such a negative point is to draw attention to a negative aspect of AI, there are stories about smart machines replacing jobs, too. Artificial intelligence will ultimately affect all of us. How will this affect your job in the future, and how can you prepare for that day.  Empathy If you haven’t joined the conversation around AI yet, I hope this article has brought you up to speed. If you’re still unclear about what artificial intelligence truly is, here are some important definitions: Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability for machines to carry out tasks that a normal human can’t.

Natural language processing

Natural language processing (NLP) is a field of computer science that focuses on enabling computers to understand human language. NLP-based systems are used for tasks such as speech recognition, machine translation, text-to-speech synthesis, and information summarization. NLP is closely related to natural language understanding. Things like natural language processing, topic modelling, and stemming are all ways to build automated processes for understanding the language you input into your machine. Even something as basic as choosing the days of the week can be completely automated with NLP.

Hiring for NLP-based machine learning specialists can be a good start for creating more effective and efficient processes for your business and team. Social media Speaking of NLP, another area where artificial intelligence is popping up right now is in the form of consumer service. The idea of customer service has always been a very human one, and we’ve always tried to provide the best customer experience. But with new machines such as body worn cameras, smart assistants, and voice search technology, the idea that a customer could ever get in touch with the companies they encounter on a daily basis has increased.

Today’s full-service businesses allow customers to get the information they need in a way that’s easy, convenient, and friendly. Examples of full-service businesses include: UberEats, Book, Duolingo, TellApart, TripAdvisor, Obviously, these businesses are filtering out the low-quality or inaccurate reviews and are putting more effort into finding the best possible experiences for their customers to give them. To this end, they use advanced A.I., sentiment analysis, and list building techniques to gain feedback and better understand their customers’ needs in order to respond better and with more ease to every interaction they have with the brand. How to create some winning brand messages and some brands already know how to use AI effectively, while others need to start combining AI with marketing. When you’re creating messaging for your brand or your clients, don’t forget to consider how the technology you use is going to help you best serve those customers.

Virtual assistants (chatbots)

Chatbots solve a lot of problems that make businesses inefficient. They cut down on the amount of time spent on repetitive tasks, freeing up employees to do more important work. For example, chatbots can be programmed to answer customer service questions and take orders for products and services. Chatbots can also automate simple parts of a sales process, such as entering in billing information or collecting payments.

Image and video recognition

Image and video recognition is becoming increasingly important as more and more people are using social media to learn about companies and products. Using artificial intelligence, image and video recognition can be used to analyse what people are saying about your brand, as well as to check if your products are being used correctly. You can also use machine learning to determine which high-performing content to include in your website and then encourage people to share the content online with your brand. When it comes to artificial intelligence, predictive modelling is one of the most important technologies.

What it means for you: If it’s a matter of predicting upcoming trends in the market for products and services, then artificial intelligence will let you create automated content campaigns to target specific long-tail keywords. How it works: If you have access to data such as social media data, try to evaluate common guesswork and guess patterns in what our client tweet. Using machine learning methods, predictive models can be created and average any possible data to analyze something as smart as what people actually tweet.

In addition to social media, customer insight fits with AI. For instance, it’s easier to target people based on past behaviour (such as what they’ve shared on social media) because it helps determine how you can build better content to suit that behaviour. How it works: People aren’t people without flaws, desires, and other characteristics. You can determine that by analyzing what your customers are saying in your chat applications and on your site. The specific characteristics can be identified with machine learning so you can determine what type of content you should create to match the characteristics.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already changing the world. It’s present in many products we use every day and it’s likely to become an even more integral part of our lives in the years to come. But what is AI? How will it affect businesses and consumers over the next ten years? In this article, we look at the next chapter in the exciting story of artificial intelligence.

What is artificial intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is, in the most general sense, intelligence exhibited by machines. In computer science AI research is defined as the study of “intelligent agents”. An intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal. So when we talk about AI, we’re actually talking about complex and iterative algorithms that give machines the ability to learn and beat humans at certain tasks. It doesn’t take a PhD to build an algorithm with enough insight to beat a human master chess player.

What is AI?

A.I. is Artificial Intelligence. Whereas a human brain (or brain computer interface) contains about 10trillions of “neurons” (or connections between neurons), an average supercomputer contains billions of exabytes (which is a 1 followed by 30 zeros). We can think of the brain as being 10**72 billion copies of itself (10**80 trillion = 10*10**72 billion), while 15 trillion files (home HD, for example) contain only 10**63 files. In other words, the human brain isn’t that much larger than an HD set for kicks.

While 15 trillion files are not that much by today’s standards, when the first Windows PC came out (in 1995) they only had 6 megabytes. Even with a faster solid-state drive (which today costs over $100,000!) a first-gen PC would have stored only 400 Megabytes. If we apply those 100-to-15 trillion base-10 calculations to a computer today that has 3.46 petabytes of storage, we’ll have a hard time storing the entire sky.

Our computers are 10,000 times larger than the mere 400 megabytes of one year ago. Just Computing (Library of Congress) So how big is the human brain compared to these trillion-drive hard drives? well many factors impact how much information can be stored in a file. First and foremost, the amount of processing power that is available to the computer. This makes up the “processing power” of the data or “processing power” of the whole data set of all human consciousness.

How will AI affect our lives?

There are two main ways that AI might affect our lives: First, it could replace jobs. If a computer can do what you do better and more cheaply, then you may no longer be needed in the job market. But technology has always created more jobs than it has taken away. We look at “skills” and consider what it would mean if we no longer needed cooks, gardeners, hairstylists, plumbers, and car mechanics. This change won’t happen overnight, but it could evolve over several years. Jobs still exist in every industry, but there are now “new” jobs that only require a machine or robot rather than a human employee.

Second, AI might provide us with new marketing opportunities. AI is artificial intelligence and as such, it can learn to drive towards specific goals on its own. Think about Google’s self-driving car; it learned to drive from its training data. We would need human drivers to guide our cars manually, but as we were no longer needed for this task, people no longer needed to work for a living. However, if a self-driving car currently drives up to a restaurant and backs into a wall, we’d realise this was not actually the fault of the human driver.

The car had learned to drive like a robot, needing no explicit external instruction from a human. Although AI could replace a large number of jobs in the future, it would probably only be a small sliver of jobs compared to the ones it could create from scratch. In technical terms, there are two ways that AI will change marketing. First, it will make existing tasks much easier for us. As technologies develop, they become easier to use and less complex. For example, it now only takes a few seconds to upload a photo to Google My Business and complete a chat with a customer. Don’t we all wish that only took five seconds? There’s a huge opportunity for digital marketers to take advantage of this by creating more effective (and relaxing) content. Second, it will make some tasks much harder for us.

What will the future of AI look like?

Artificial Intelligence is becoming more and more a part of our lives. From Siri and Alexa to self-driving cars and robot journalists, it’s clear that AI has a bright future. To understand how AI will continue to evolve, it’s important to understand what AI is today and where it came from. Some of you may not be familiar with the word “artificial,” but for this article, the definition will apply. Artificial Intelligence uses computers to model and to make predictions on everything from flight patterns to facial recognition to mood, from pain perception to the price of a parking spot.

Even if you have no interest in artificial intelligence (and I certainly don’t), it’s important to understand how these technologies work so that we can all prepare for what’s to come. Before we go any further, you’re probably asking yourself what the difference is between AI and machine learning (ML). We think the definition below might shed some clarity on this debate.

Artificial Intelligence

When we use the phrase “artificial intelligence,” we typically mean some kind of technology that is capable of doing work better than a human can. More specifically, we’re referring to any system capable of giving more accurate, relevant, or timely information than a human being could. It is the boundary between AI technology and “machine learning” that is often misinterpreted, as AI technology being capable of doing sophisticated tasks isn’t the same thing as ML.

Machine learning involves an algorithm going from data (typically training data) to an output (a model that can predict or teach how to interpret that data differently than the original data). Different businesses that might be affected by AI include personal assistants, digital product managers, and machine learning engineers.

Personal assistant

Personal assistants have existed for years, but with the advancement of voice search and conversational UI, personal assistants are becoming an even more important part of a business’ arsenal. This includes things like Google Assistant, Siri, Cortana, Facebook M, and Amazon Alexa. Google Assistant is a great example of a personal assistant.

AI is one of the biggest buzzwords in business right now. Companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are already integrating basic forms AI into various aspects of their businesses, but how does it benefit your SMB? Here’s how to implement AI in your business today.

Find ways to compete:

Competition is a reality of doing business. It doesn’t matter if you’re an established enterprise or just starting out, it’s always a good idea to find ways to compete with your competitors. This can mean offering better pricing, superior customer service, or any number of other factors that will help you win business away from the competition.

Pricing is one of the main areas where customers compare providers. If your product is unique enough, you can get away with pricing that’s higher than your competitors without losing sales. However, if you’re selling a commodity product like bottled water, it’s important to make sure you’re pricing it competitively. Look at your competitors and see what they’re charging for similar products. If they’re charging more than you are for comparable water, you might want to consider adjusting your price.

Pay attention to customer service as well. You don’t necessarily have to beat your competitors on this front (if they’re doing a great job, there’s no reason to drive customers away), but it’s still advantageous if you can provide excellent service while they don’t. For example, if one company provides great service and another company provides mediocre service but charges less for similar products, the customer will go with the company that provides better service.

Find ways to do more with AI

Artificial intelligence is getting more powerful every day. Google, Apple and Amazon are fighting for the title of “most valuable company in the world.” AI is transforming industries and solving problems that people once thought were impossible. One of the perks of living in this age is that you can use AI to make your life easier. It’s not just for gigantic companies or smart people with PhDs. Anyone can use AI to solve problems and increase their income.

AI can find a new customer, build your business’s reputation, and increase your community even if you have a small budget

Find customers

One of the great things about marketing is that there are almost always multiple options for getting your message to your audience. There are many effective ways to attract more customers, but AI makes the process more efficient and cost-effective.

Tailored content

One of the most effective uses of artificial intelligence is to create content that is tailored to individual people. If you’re a fitness instructor and someone emails you to ask about a personal training session, a robot assistant can craft a personalised response within seconds, giving the person all of the information, they need. This strategy also works on social media platforms like Facebook where it can be used to generate relevant ads for each customer.

This technology works by using customer data from previous interactions with your brand or service. For example, if someone bought a pair of shoes from Zappos then filled in their online customer survey, AI can analyse that data and use it to generate an email response for them when they make another purchase from Zappos. This way, Zappos knows what pairs of shoes that person likes and can tell them about similar products that will appeal directly.

What AI means for your business

To the outside observer, the concept of artificial intelligence (AI) can seem a little bit abstract. But AI is already part of everyday life, from smart home assistants like Alexa to driverless cars. Truly intelligent machines are still very much a work in progress, but there’s no doubt that businesses will find ways to implement AI into their operations in the not-too-distant future.

We’re already seeing its impact on customer relationships and interactions on social media, with chatbots helping to ease the burden on human customer service teams. Adopting AI into your business model is bound to have an impact on your marketing strategy, too.

Artificial Intelligence is still in a state of development. Yet, it holds great promise for businesses of all sizes and types, no matter what you do. Think about the possibilities for just one small business sector and extrapolate that to every possible industry. Do not let AI be replaced by fear, but embrace the opportunities before us.

What is AI and how can it be used in business?

Artificial intelligence (AI) uses computer systems to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. AI is being used in many different areas of business, including customer service, product development, and strategy. Amazon creating an AI assistant. Image source. We’re increasingly surrounded by technology which depends much more on the human brain than most people realize.

AI is capable of highly sophisticated tasks, like determining bite frequency, emotion, and mood. The advent of AI and the ability of smart technology to perform such tasks makes it important not to think of AI as just a buzzword. Instead, think of AI as a new way of interacting with the world, a new industry, and a new way of thinking about generating revenue.

AI in real estate

The stock market is made up of thousands of individual companies, each representing a different type of company. Some companies are publicly traded, like Apple, Facebook, and Google, while other companies are private, like AirBNB, Uber, or Yelp.AI technology makes it possible for you to provide your real estate clients with access to information that is historically only available to the top companies in your niche.

To continue our conversation from the previous point, one of the biggest companies using AI is Amazon. While they purchased Match.com (and now, the data used to provide the matches) from the founders of that company one decade ago, AI allows Amazon to provide housing recommendations to their avid audience of home buyers. However, the most talked-about use of AI is real estate. Using AI can allow real estate pros to gain an advantage over their real estate competitors.

To add to the list of important uses of AI, I would like to quickly discuss another area where AI is already showing its importance.

AI to grow your business

Artificial intelligence is a big buzzword that’s floating around your industry and has been for a few years now. But what are you supposed to do with it? Well, among other things, you can use AI to help grow your business in a number of different ways.

Data analysis and optimization: I admit I’ve been in and out of this game a lot lately as my job really has shifted away from “executing” and more towards “fluidly analyzing” and setting targets for our team of digital strategists and inbound team members. That said, there are still many case studies that show how smart and thoughtful people can make their businesses faster and perform better. One of my favorite examples to show off about this specifically is Home Depot’s “Machine Learning for Optimization” project.

This project used a database of dimensions (things like measurements, colors, and even temperatures) that they’ve collected over 7,500 times per year. Using their machine learning AI, they were able to automatically identify certain colors and heights within these collections, as well as optimize which colors and heights get used more frequently.

Why did they do this? Not to optimize a specific offer or any sales goals. Not really. It was to simply set a more strategic direction to their business and now, they’re really better off than they were with the previous direction they’d been headed.

how to implement an AI strategy within your business

There are four main components of an AI strategy:

 1. Identify areas in which AI can add value to your business. AI can help your business in many areas, such as sales, marketing, finance, HR, and customer support.

2. Choose the right AI tool for your business. It’s important to determine whether an ANT tool (such as an EDA, CPA, or CRM) is appropriate for your business model before deciding on the tool platform.

3. Make sure the data is present. For example, if you are planning to utilize a point-in-time omnichannel solution like Alchemy Payments, make sure the transactional data is already collected and integrated in with the system, as it will be essential to analyze subsequent trends.

4. Build a working model. Once you’ve defined your goals and restrictions, let the AI system work with you to build a model that incorporates your data. Your model includes key assumptions, parameters, and outputs. It will serve as the foundation of your decision making around AI, both in the short and long run.

Which areas of AI can add value to your business? 25% of shoppers think that AI will positively impact items ordered online. 35% of B2B (business-to-business) shoppers think that AI will positively impact products purchased at brick-and-mortar stores. 63% of B2C (business to consumer) respondents agree that AI is likely to positively impact the shopping experience at brick-and-mortar stores. YouTube advertising as an example.

Here’s a business scenario using YouTube advertising. Let’s say you make products available for sale through YouTube channels. You decide to utilize coupon codes on some of your videos to drive relevant traffic to your YouTube store. To make your videos as valuable as possible, you decide on shaping the message to the product within the video. For instance, you want to emphasize unique and useful attributes of the product, and more photo resources on how to care for the product. In addition, to drive different types of purchasers to your store, you add a “how to care for” video to the end of each video.

How does machine learning differ from AI?

Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence. It is essentially a computer program that uses data to learn how to perform a task, instead of having people program in a series of instructions and it uses algorithms to find patterns in data and then make predictions based on those patterns.

For example, a simple classifier may find that a certain search result contains more exact matches to a list of terms: its initial starting point would be data about these terms and relationships, then it will try to connect those terms to similar data (known as a “cluster”) and make an overall assessment. This type of classifier example is quite simplistic, but a classifier that detects the visual properties of a photo could be made by taking a large sample of photos and analyzing them for patterns. Image Source: Wikipedia Tableau is a cloud data visualization software that makes general pivot tables possible.

When you are trying to figure out how you did on a certain task or make a report, a pivot table is one step to give you a chilling, objective overview of your progress. The advantages of pivot tables are that they allow you to put all kinds of information in one (sort of) neat table: you can see the entire number of visits over time, the unique pages on your site that contain that term in the text and even view ranges: New to pivot tables? There’s a lot of great resources for getting started with pivot tables including Moz’s “Guide To Excel Pivot Tables” and Tableau’s “Getting Started with Pivot Tables” in our Tableau Learning Center. Another great application for pivot tables is creating your own training set of documents that you can use to automatically generate updates to your pivot table as you learn how to do specific tasks or analyze a series of data.
